Honeymoon Fiji

One of the most coveted honeymoon destinations in the world is Fiji.

Romantic Fiji honeymoon packages are on offer from many of the top resorts and include everything you might dream of…  There are champagne picnics set on snowy white sand beaches which have been warmed by the tropical sun; soothing sea breezes passing lightly though palm fronds and lush vegetation; stunning sunsets exploding with gold and red hues; the scent of tropical flowers blooming nearby; deep blues, azure, and turquoise waters reflecting the island sun.  Sound amazing?  It is!

The 330 islands that make up Fiji are in a very remote location, situated between Australia and Hawaii, making it a great getaway.  Enjoy a Fiji honeymoon and see just what unspoiled natural beauty is all about.  A South Pacific paradise, Fiji is consistently voted one of the top secluded honeymoon destinations each year by Conde Nast Travel, as well as winning awards for Breathtaking Beaches and Red Hot Romance.

Of the many islands that make up Fiji, only some are recommended for honeymoon vacations.  This is because of the fact that some Fiji islands are uninhabited, while others are a bit too tourist laden to be a great getaway.  The charm of authentic local villages is a great way to truly feel a part of the South Pacific.  To the north, you will generally find remote islands, little amenities, lots of jungle, and time away from the rat race.  The south represents a much more settled, commercial, and full-service offering.

It’s likely been years since you’ve seen it, if ever, so now is the perfect time to rent Blue Lagoon, the film starring a very young Brooke Shields.  Her being shipwrecked on a deserted island will give you a few sneak peaks at the wondrous natural beauty of a honeymoon in Fiji.

Where to Go

Take a few days and visit Fiji’s almost deserted north, such as the islands of Matangi, Taveuni, Nukubati and Vanua Levu to see some amazingly rugged, yet beautiful, landscapes which feature numerous waterfalls as well as a huge selection of flora.  The lagoons are surrounded by sandy beaches, have crystal clear waters, and offer some of the top scuba diving and snorkeling in the world.  This is one of the most highly prized dive locations, making it a great part of a Fiji honeymoon itinerary for the adventurous.

Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu is one of the most widely known and of course offers rest and relaxation.  But to the west of Vitu Levu are Fiji hotel resorts on Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, where powder white sandy beaches invite honeymooners to get away.  Popular in other locations such as Maldives, overwater bungalows are a new offering in Fiji and can likely only be found at Likuliku Lagoon.  For those with a little more to spend, Wadigi Island is a private island!

South of Viti Levu is Royal Davui Island in Beqa Lagoon which is considered a very posh, chic, and contemporary resort, ideal for the traveler with sophisticated tastes and an appropriate budget to suit.

Getting Around

Since the Fiji honeymoon resorts are sometimes separated by considerable amounts of water, be sure to take into account travel times.  You can hop from island to island via boat, speedboat, aircraft, seaplane or helicopter.  Personally, we recommend helicopter whenever possible because of the high visibility out of the side windows and ability to land about anywhere.  Seaplanes are a common mode of transport in and around Fiji, and the island children make it even more fun as they strike up song and dance upon your arrival or departure. The price difference between the various modes is fairly small, relative to the vacation budget, so don’t waste 4 or 5 hours for the sake of $20 savings.  Enjoy and maximise your time in Fiji.

The dry season in Fiji runs May to October.  Keep this in mind when booking a holiday.  Although the remainder of the year has more humidity and tropical showers, the air is warm and rain refreshing.  It is perfectly enjoyable November to April, and often the best deals are available during this off-season.

Relaxation

There are a good many resorts that promote a romantic and relaxing atmosphere for the perfect Fiji honeymoon.  For example,Vatulele Island Resort has a ban on telephones and TVs. With plenty of activities, boredom is not an option, and are highlighted by a champagne picnic to the deserted island of Nooki Nooki.  Removing some of the ties to modern society is the perfect way to release and relax.

Planning

While the internet has made it possible for people to research, plan and book a Fiji package holiday without help, it is not recommended.

There are travel agents and agencies who are experts in Fiji travel!  Given the fact that your honeymoon is such a special occasion, don’t leave anything to chance, and get assistance from someone who knows the score.

No two Fiji honeymoons are alike, and a good agent will ask questions – a lot of questions.  The answers will help guide in selecting location, activities, restaurants, entertainment, special asides, and so on.  Even if you don’t know exactly what you want to see and do, they should be quick to offer suggestions, ideas, things to do and things to avoid.

For some couples a honeymoon is all about luxury. For some it’s about relaxation after the big wedding day. For others it is an adventure and active time.  There are cruises, caves, beaches, reefs and wildlife. Environmentally conscious holidayers may want an eco friendly resort.

A good agent will know which resorts offer the extras to make a Fiji honeymoon complete, such as greeting bottles of champagne, menu preferences, turn down service, concierge assistance, private beach rendezvous…

Travel agents can discuss these things with you in any one of a number of ways.  The first step is to browse this site, make a wish list as a starting point, make note of a few islands, resorts, activities, restaurants, and then contact any one of the recommended agents to get things started.  Or, forget the planning and just make the call today – leave the hard work to them!
